FMS/LG2 Light Guide

FMS/LG2 – Tapered light guide (50mm length, 4 x 4mm sample end)

  • Allows measurement of samples not suitable for use with conventional leafclips.
  • Amplifies instrument saturating pulses up to 60,000 μmol m-2 s-1.
  • Can be submerged in liquid for aquatic and marine applications.
  • Optical grade borosilicate glass construction for maximum transmission of light and fluorescence signal.
  • Compatible with both FMS-300 and FMS 2+ chlorophyll fluorometers.

The FMS/LG2 light guide extends the functionality of the FMS-300 and FMS 2+ chlorophyll fluorometers. It connects to the fibre-optic cable as an optical extension that can be used to measure samples that are not suitable for the typical fibre-optic and leafclip configuration.

FMS/LG2 provides a convenient solution when measuring samples such as Arabidopsis, grasses (including seagrass species), and needles. This light guide could also be used to measure fluorescence signals from liquid samples held in small cuvettes or vials such as algae or chloroplast suspensions.

For simultaneous measurements of oxygen evolution and fluorescence in liquid samples such as chloroplast or algae suspensions, the FMS/LG2 light guide can be immersed in samples within Hansatech Instruments liquid-phase electrode chambers. Using this method, reliable fluorescence data from samples, such as Spirulina platensis, can be obtained from sample concentrations as low as 0.1 O.D.

The glass light guide is 50mm in length with a square cross section. At the fibre-optic cable end, the light guide is 7.5 x 7.5mm tapering to 4 x 4mm at the sample end. The tapered form of the light guide also provides up to 2-times amplification of the light delivered by the FMS-300 with saturating light intensities of up to 60,000 μmol m-2 s-1 available.
